Erich Schiffman talks us through a well designed sequence of yoga
postures, giving spiritual as well as physical guidance. The dune
landscape and unobtrusive sound track serve to focus on the poses;
which are beautifully performed by five students, of whom Ali Macgraw
is one. Schiffman's words are well chosen and the sequence well
edited to illustrate how to get into and out of each position and
co-ordinate movement with breath.
This
video is not for complete beginners, as some of the poses are rather
challenging and verbal explanation is kept to a minimum, in keeping
with the video's relaxing ambiance. Conversely, the small amount
of explanation makes it possible to practise to this video again
and again, without becoming irritated by the instruction. This should
not be regarded as a "celebrity video", as Ali Macgraw
takes a lowly role with the other participants. As she states in
the introduction, she is not an expert on yoga, far less a teacher
but she does practise every day (it shows) and can testify to the
positive influence yoga has had on her life.
