This
video guides you through a relatively basic yoga workout, with a
well designed sequence of moderately challenging postures. The video
begins with Susan Fulton lying on the beach, talking us through
some gentle stretches designed to get us moving. There follows an
eight minute sequence of standing stretches before the sun salutation,
two repetitions on each side. Further standing postures begin with
tree balance, followed by triangle, side angle bend and forward
bends. Thirty minutes into the video we go into warrior sequence,
which includes warrior I and II and some leg stretches.
The
seated sequence includes forward and backward bends, some spinal
twists and leg stretches before moving into cat, dog and child's
pose. The active part of this video finishes with the dog balance
pose illustrated on the video cover, followed by five minute of
lying down twists and relaxation. During most of this video, Susan
Fulton gives
guidance on how to co-ordinate movement with breath and where to
direct your concentration. The instructions are delivered as a talk
over, which is concise and well thought out. Additional guidance
is given during the poses and often manages to identify the area
in which a beginner is likely to be experiencing problems, suggesting
a remedy or compromise. There is also a four minute "Breath
and movement sequence", for those without the time to use the
whole video.
The
scenery is lovely, being set both on the beach and in some arid
areas of Lanzarote. It may be incorrect to call it "Power"
yoga, as many of the poses use modifications for beginners. The
triangle for instance shows one hand resting above or below your
knee. These relatively modest demands make the video accessible
to everyone and an excellent routine for beginners.
