Suzanne
Deason performs this yoga routine on the edge of a Hawaiian volcano,
with breathtaking scenery of cinder cones and ash fields below her.
After a five minute warm-up, she moves into a twelve minute sequence
that starts with lunges then alternates warrior, triangle and side
bends with forward bend and dog positions, all practised as a vinyasa.
The sequence finishes with balances, as the triangle becomes half
moon, warrior moves into exalted warrior (standing stick), finishing
with pose of the dancer. These standing postures are
practised fast, with no long holds. From this, you are taken into
a cooling off sequence of bridge pose; followed by lying down leg
stretches, forward bend and a series of boat poses. The video finishes
with a couple of minutes of relaxation.
Like
all of Suzanne Deason’s Yoga videos, the sound track is clear and
easy to understand, even when you are not facing the TV screen.
The positions are beautifully choreographed and demonstrated in
such a way that anyone can follow and, with practise, keep up. Some
may find the speed of this video rather disconcerting, as they may
prefer to hold poses for longer. On the other hand, it is performed
as a vinyasa and longer holds would have extended it beyond thirty
minutes. Others may be put off by the large number of balances,
which is why this video is rated here as "Beginner / Intermediate".
The one addition that would have improved this sequence is some
spinal twists. These can easily be added at home, as the DVD has
stops before each pose. These allow you to add a pose without stopping
play, then jump back to replay the section you have just missed.
The video also includes a Pilates routine of about the same length.
