This
video starts with a
warmup in the seated position, including bends and twists, then
moves into some standing bends. This is followed by an excellent
sequence of standing poses comprising several sideways-facing bends,
including warrior and triangle postures, interspersed with forward
bends. The final, cool down section includes bridge and locust type
asanas and some work on the abdominal muscles, before some more
seated twists and relaxation.
The
sequence is beautifully illustrated in the Sedona National Park,
Arizona; by four ladies at different levels of yoga ability. The
dvd allows you to follow a complete routine by any of the practitioners
or alternatively, a combined sequence including all of them. Suzanne
Deason provides a talk-over commentary, describing the positions
and focussing in particular on the best ways to stretch into each
and co-ordinate with breathing. There is further guidance available
in a pose guide, available at the start of each of the main postures.
Using The "Enter" button on your video controller, separate
sequences can be accessed for further information.
What
has this to do with weight loss? Suzanne Deason explains in the
introduction that by helping us to rebalance our lives, yoga is
a better tool than dieting. The greatest value of this video is
as an aid to beginners. Wherever a difficult pose can be modified,
one or more of the participants shows us how to do it. If you are
already experienced or know what modifications to use, you can follow
Suzanne Deason performing this lovely sequence unmodified, in some
of the most beautiful and dramatic scenery to be found in any yoga
video.
